Kathy Staicer grew up on Long Island, New York and spent her early years admiring the beauty of the hills on the north side and the ocean on the south side. Even before Kathy actually started pursuing her art work seriously, she would be moved by a subject and feel the inspiration to “put it to paper” in the form of a painting.
Kathy has been involved with the arts for her entire life. She has a very strong creative spirit and has followed it in many directions. As a young person she studied modern dance in college and graduate school at New York University as well as in professional studios such as the Martha Graham studio and the Erick Hawkins studio. She did choreography, improvisation and performed in several dance companies including the Genny Kapuler Dance Theater in Soho, NY. She has always put her heart into whatever she has worked on.
In 1984 she relocated with her family from Long Island, New York to Virginia Beach, VA. This was a major change in her life. She brought many of the influences from New York and began to integrate them with the calmer more peaceful life of the South.
As her children moved on with their lives she was able to move on with her art with the support and encouragement of her husband. Having played with drawing and painting her entire life, she started to take classes in 1996 and began to paint part time. Then in 2007, Kathy retired and has been able to pursue her art full time. She has experience working in many different media, but recently her passion for watercolor consumes her and she finds it the most exciting form of expression at her disposal.
She has begun teaching and it is a pleasure for her to exchange ideas with her students and to experience the learning process along with them. She strives to share the joy found in painting and drawing with those eager to learn.
Kathy belongs to the Chesapeake Bay Watercolorists, the Chesapeake Bay Artists Association, the Virginia Watercolor Society and the Creative Artists of Tidewater. She participates in many indoor and outdoor art shows every year and her art has hung in multiple galleries. She has won ribbons for her work and her paintings are living on the walls of homes across the country.
